Trump and the continuing Republican war on the use of aborted fetal tissue to research and cure diseases is coming home to roost. Researchers have been recently seeking an exemption from this draconian rule in order to aid their research into the Coronavirus pandemic. This is an emergency effort and is falling on deaf ears.
The Washington Post reports today that:
A senior scientist at a government biomedical research laboratory has been thwarted in his efforts to conduct experiments on possible treatments for the new coronavirus because of the Trump administration’s restrictions on research with human fetal tissue.
The scientist, Kim Hasenkrug, an immunologist at the National Institutes of Health’s Rocky Mountain Laboratories in Montana, has been appealing for nearly a month to top NIH officials, arguing that the pandemic warrants an exemption to a ban imposed last year prohibiting government researchers from using tissue from abortions in their work.
This ban on fetal tissue research is patently anti-abortion and has hindered scientists since the Reagan years in finding cures and treatments for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Diabetes, AIDS, and hundreds of other health conditions. The bans have been particularly egregious. But now, lifting that ban is of worldwide importance. You know who to call.
