This election has me on edge. You see, everything I’ve worked for all my life is on the line, not to mention the future of this democracy. Some of you may or may not know that since 1976, I’ve worked with abortion clinics. I have run clinics, promoted them (Abortion Clinics OnLine), owned them, and appeared in the press often defending abortion rights. My last press appearance was over 6 years ago when I was on a Rachel Maddow special about my friend Dr. George Tiller who was assassinated by an anti-abortion terrorist in Wichita Kansas. My late husband Wayne went with me to New York while I taped the show. He was sitting in the room where I was interviewed and witnessed first hand my range of emotions.

Trump has made it very clear that he wants to make abortion illegal. That would mean that you, your daughters, wives, sisters, nieces, granddaughters and female friends would be forced to carry unwanted pregnancies to term. This would also impact their ability to get birth control. I know it’s hard to conceive of some of these girls and women you love in this situation, but believe me, I’ve seen it all. Good girls get pregnant and get abortions every day. And some good boys hang around and help, and others split. If abortion is illegal, good girls and boys will be forced into parenthood, child support and/or early marriage when they are not ready. Some women with wanted pregnancies will be faced with needing an abortion for medical reasons. I wrote an important article several years ago about later abortion called “Mercy Abortions”. If Trump is elected, abortion will be a thing of the past. He has pledged that and I believe him.

Wayne was fully supportive and proud of my vocation. In fact, he was very liberal. His political views were couched in a pragmatism that made him an effective businessman and the consummate ethical negotiator. Early in our relationship about 10 yeas ago I made some comment about watching the Apprentice. He went ballistic and said that Donald Trump was one of the most deplorable people he had ever encountered and he refused to watch the show. While he was in New York in the mid 70’s he had followed Trump's career and his basic comment was something like: “Trump never paid back a loan and none of the New York banks would have anything to do with him.” This was appalling to Wayne who lived a life where he worked hard, paid his bills, and took care of the people he cared about. I’m sure that he would be literally disgusted that Trump is the nominee of the Republican Party and has plunged the discourse in this country to a level of vulgar hateful sexist rage.
Wayne also had a keen sense of the financial markets. Financial advisors I’ve talked to agree that a Trump win will set the markets spinning out of control because of Trump’s unpredictable and erratic behavior.Markets like stability. But, like the aftermath of Brexit in the UK, the devastating repercussions of a Trump presidency will be felt for a long time. Don’t take my word for it. According to analysts at Barclays: "If Trump wins, the analysts say they expect that the S&P 500 would experience an immediate correction, falling anywhere from 11-13 per cent. By comparison, if Clinton wins, the analysts see the S&P 500 theoretically going up 2-3 per cent.”
I don’t want my nephews and nieces to live in a world where an erratic buffoon determines their destiny. I want better things for them and for all of us.
Please vote for Hillary. She is an over qualified woman being challenged by an under qualified narcissistic bully. That’s happened to me before, and has probably happened to most other women as well. Make it stop.
Peace and Love, Ann Rose
